The Cote d'Or Classic
June 9th
Not the Tour de France but the Cote d'Or Classic for Junior riders started in Pouilly-en-Auxois today and we just happened to be there to ride our bikes along the Burgundy Canal. The riders ranged in age from 16-19 (they looked very young) but when the race began they whizzed by as if they were professionals. All decked out in their team kits it was a colorful sight to see! After the group passed by a darling little Frenchman asked me (tongue in cheek) if we were part of the race. I answered him that I was a little late getting started in good enough French that we both had a good laugh.
Riding along the Burgundy Canal is one of the prettiest canal rides in France. Our ride took us from Pouilly-en-Auxois to Pont Royal for 40+km/25 miles. There are so many locks, picturesque villages and such gorgeous scenery that I never get tired of riding here. We did finally get caught in a little rain but by the time we arrived back to our car it had stopped and we weren't really even wet. I guess we ride so fast the water evaporated off of us...😅.

As I mentioned before on Sunday a lot of restaurants are closed. When we got back to our apartment I began prepping for dinner while watching the men's final of the French Open. It was a fun match to watch even though the winner wasn't who we wanted. Oh well, Jay said he shouldn't feel too bad coming in second place since his prize money was 1.3 Million US $$. The salade nicoise was quite good I think and it was relaxing staying in this evening for a change.
