Rivers and Canals
June 12th
Riding along the rivers and canals of France on traffic-free trails are our go to favorite places to ride. The Saone River has several trails along its shores. One is the Voie Bleu that we rode on today. We started just south of Macon and rode out and back for another 40+ kilometers. We were ahead of schedule so decided to ride into the city to find a cafe. The trail is well marked and we easily made it into town. The waterfront in Macon is populated with many cafes and a gathering place for all to enjoy. There were young women training on the river rowing to the directions of their instructors. We love seeing how the locals experience a normal day in their lives.
Dinner salads at Le Carnot with a view of the old church down the way that is now an art gallery.

One of our favorite rides is along the Canal du Centre from Changy to Chalon-sur-Saone. We barged on this Canal many years ago and love returning. It has many locks, gorgeous scenery and a smooth paved surface. Today we started from a new parking lot because the bridge across the canal was under construction. We neglected to pay attention to where the parking lot was because it was so close to the canal and upon our return we passed by for a few extra kilometers. It was an easy nearly 50km ride on a warm and sunny day in Burgundy.

Before dinner we often stop at the Divin Wine Bar for a glass of Rose, Vin Rouge or Cremant de Bourgogne. Our dinner tonight was at the tapas restaurant L'Alentour, a fun and tasty experience. All the items are meant for sharing.
