Not alone along the Saone

June 16th

There were lots of bikers on the trail today.  Sunday is a popular time to get out and enjoy the environment and today was no exception. The riders in France haven't caught onto the idea of warning people that they are passing on your left so we try hard to hold our line on the right side of the trail to avoid any mishaps...so far so good.  The scenery is beautiful along the river and passing through the town of Saint Jean de Losne is always a treat.  We actually began our ride in Losne and continued on toward Dole but turned around just before for a 50km roundtrip venture. The ride starts along the Saone and continues onto the Canal du Rhone au Rhin for the second half along a very smooth and paved surface.







































There are many great traffic-free trails in Burgundy but we do have to drive to the start of some which we prefer to do rather than riding on roads.  One interesting thing we have noticed driving through the villages here is that the signs entering the towns are often upside down.  We have been wondering what is up with that so I finally did the research...google.  Here is what I found:

"The signs are accompanied by the slogan 'Nous marchons sur la tête' (we're walking on our heads) to signal a world turned upside down or a policy that makes no sense. It's a protest, largely orchestrated by the farming union that represents young agriculture workers."
















Yesterday we purchased some roasted chicken with potatoes at the market to have for dinner tonight. I was able to throw together a caprese salad from tasty tomatoes that Daniel had given us and of course the obligatory baguette and wine.  Parfait!
