Over Hill and Dale 🚵

June 11th

The Jura are not high mountains but Jay can attest to some hill climbing on our ride this day.  I am so happy with my little motor! I kept asking him if he was ready for one on his bike but he said he wasn't quite ready yet.  We rode from Daniel's home in Gigny through several villages up a few hills and turned around at Arthenas for about 40+km.  Daniel had returned to Annecy for a ride with his bike club so we were on our own for meals.  He was so generous and purchased a ton of food items for us so we made a lunch to take on our ride.

For dinner however we looked up a few of Daniel's suggestions and all that were close were only open until mid to late afternoon.  Quite a dilemma.  Finally Jay discovered a place with a view of a beautiful lake about 30 minutes away so he called and made a reservation.  We arrived and found there was one parking spot left in a tiny parking lot adjacent to the restaurant and campground.  There was a sign that said it was parking for the campground but we (I) assumed the restaurant was part of the campground. We went up the stairs to what turned out to basically be a beach burger type place with only outdoor seating and it was a little windy and cold.  I noticed several people wrapped in blankets and we were directed to the cabinet to choose one for ourselves. The wine was ok, the burger, fish and chips were as well but the view of the lake was the highlight.

With dinner over we walked over to our car and the truck Jay had seen drive up and park behind our car was still there, turned off and locked.  The restaurant owner said it was the campground host that was upset people parked in his lot so parked there purposely to make a point.  Luckily the other two cars were also folks that ate at the restaurant so they were able to jockey their cars around to get out which gave us room to do the same.  Whew! Jay thought we might have to spend the night in the car. Disaster averted!
