La Voie Bleue
June 17th
The Voie Bleue bike trail starts in the north of France near the border with Luxembourg and travels along beside the Moselle River, then follows the Canal des Vosges before going by the Saône River to Lyon. We have done a few of the sections and today we added the portion starting just south of Macon near the town of Thoissey. Most of the trail in this area is termed a "stabilized sand" surface which turned out to be quite smooth and solid for riding even with our skinny tires. Running along side the Saône River it was a beautiful and serene ride for 40km.

Our day ended at Le Brasserie Carnot for a couple of very large and delicious salads.
Here's a little information regarding the difference between a Brasserie and a Bistro in France.
"A brasserie is an informal French cafe offering beer and wine with simple, hearty food. The dining area is usually large and open, boasting a loud, boisterous atmosphere with many tables filling the space. Food is served at all hours, without breaks between lunch and dinner service, and the menus are French-inspired."
"A bistro is defined as a small, casual restaurant with a relatively inexpensive, simple menu. Though often a French restaurant, it doesn't have to be, and not every bistro serves French food."
We've been to both and I'm not so sure about the inexpensive part these days?
