A Visit to Dijon
June 22nd
Again the forecast was for rain so we took the train from Beaune to Dijon. It's a short 25 minute train ride and the walk from the station to the center is only about 10 minutes. With umbrella and raincoats in hand we were off to discover Dijon. We thought the Palais des Ducs was a place to tour but we found out that it houses the tourist information office and an art museum. We did go up one flight of stairs to see one room but that was it. I guess you are to admire it from the outside which is quite impressive.

We next ventured through the narrow alleyways to find the Musee de la vie Bourguignonne which has a plethora of displays on life in Burgundy. Unfortunately all the info was in French so we wandered around several floors and admired the collections not really knowing the history.
After walking the streets I was ready for a cafe so we stopped at the main square, the Place de la Liberte, just before the pounding rain arrived. We savored our drinks until I had to order something else so we could stay under cover. What to choose? Wine perhaps? Oui! A nice Chardonnay kept us dry. Once the rain let up we made our way to the Maille mustard store that I love and made a few purchases before heading back to Beaune on the train.
Dinner again at our favorite Italian restaurant in Beaune, La Tavola Calda. We started with the caprese salad again but ordered the pizza which was outstanding! We did have to take half of each home with us which is usually not done here but the owner's wife was quite nice to wrap it up for us. The owner, Eric, treated us to limoncello at the meals end.
Another fun day in Burgundy!
