Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne

June 20th

After 4 days of biking and rain in the forecast we took a day off to do some laundry and visit the Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne.  The museum is very well done with videos and displays explaining the history of the vines and wine making in Burgundy.  The audio was in French but we had a headset for the English version.  I think we were there for 2 hours and it was worth every minute.  There are 1247 Climats in Burgundy which is basically a plot of vines that the owner has identified and named.  Each Climat has its own history and produces a wine with a unique taste.  The Climats are recognized and controlled by the AOC or the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.  This organization sets the rules for wine making in France and the wine maker must follow a certain set of rules in making their product.  The Climats of Burgundy were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.

La Tavola Calda is a small Italian restaurant tucked away in a little ally just of the Place Carnot.  I think someone told us it had good pizza so we made a reservation.  We decided on the pasta but will return for pizza another night since it looked so good as it passed by our table.  My carbonara was delicious but way too much so Jay helped finish it off.  He had an incredible ravioli dish with epoisses sauce.  Our caprese starter to share was beautifully presented and tasty as well.  The waiter/owner we thought looked like Anthony Bourdain.  You can judge for yourself to see who looks more like Anthony...Jay or the restauranteur?
