A return to the Canals

June 5th

One of our favorite rides in Burgundy is from Dijon Plage out along the Burgundy Canal to Pont de Pany for 35km. We like to mix up a short ride and a long one so I don't burn out.  There are several little towns along the route and the canal is beautiful.

It seems like every year we find something different to pack for lunch.  This year we added tangerines that are super sweet.  I guess they must not be around in August or September? Also, I had trouble finding our Bonne Maman buttery cookies so we chose the Bonne Maman madeleines which was a great addition since they are individually wrapped and don't crumble at the bottom of my backpack.  Jay loves this ride because there is a picnic table located across the street from a very french looking house that we are always trying to figure out if it is inhabited. Today we had our answer as the owner came out, got her mail out of the box and drove off to run errands no doubt. I always carry my picnic pack that includes a small plastic cutting board, a sharp knife (the kind with a sleeve) and a small table cloth which fit into a gallon size ziplock.  It makes the lunch more appealing than just sitting at a bare table.  Thanks go out to my francophile friend Kathy Shelton for the idea of the table cloth.  Love it!

A favorite restaurant was our choice for dinner...Le Bistrot Bourguignon...and it was just as good as we remembered.  The kitchen has one chef and he prepares the food and plates it all himself. The service isn't speedy but not delayed either and is presented beautifully!  I had the monkfish and Jay the lamb after creative appetizers.  The chocolate fondant (chocolate lava cake) was out of this world.

Beets & Goat Cheese (what's not to like?)

Monkfish also with red beets, etc.

Another day in the books, another bike ride and another fabulous meal...J'aime le France!
