Little While Friends

September 6th

Years ago a friend of mine and I were at a grocery store away from home and she was chatting up some person in the produce aisle.  I asked her if she somehow knew this person and she said, "Oh no, I was just making a little while friend."  Since then whenever we run across people during our travels I refer to them as little while friends because we chat for a short time and it's very interesting to learn about their lives and then they are gone.  Tonight we went out for a glass of wine before returning to our attic apartment for dinner and sat next to a couple from Stuttgart, Germany.  They are cyclists as well so we had lots in common.  It was fun to share stories and then off they went to dinner.  Alas, it is bittersweet these little while friend acquaintances.

Earlier in the day we did a 40km/25 mile ride along the Canal de Bourgogne from Pouilly-en-Auxois to Port Royal.  This section starts at the highest point of the canal and there are many locks but no boats.  We can't quite figure it out unless it has to do with going through the 3km tunnel just before Pouilly.  Most of the trail is tree lined and not very picturesque.  We did come across the12th Century Chateau d'Eguilly on the trail.  I googled it and there isn't a lot of info but it is privately owned and was designated a historic monument in 1993.  I did take a few photos along the route, so enjoy.😍
