A French Greenway

September 7th

The very first French greenway was set up in Southern Burgundy and is a loop from Chalon sur Saone to Macon and back along the Voie Bleue to Chalon.  The first section starts on the outskirts of Chalon in Saint Remy.  From there you ride past Givry’s vineyards along a nicely surfaced asphalt trail to Buxy for about 20 km.  In Buxy we discovered a wonderful pizza place a few years ago so our plan in the next few days is to ride from Buxy south toward the town of Cormatin and return to Buxy for a delicious lunch at Pizzeria Cafe de la Gare.  If it's not too hot we'll try to take a ride by the Chateau Cormatin and view the gardens.  Several years ago we took a tour of the Chateau but it was all in French so we probably won't take the time to see the interior again.

The 20 km down to Buxy is mostly along farm land so I don't have many photos.  However there was a lovely field of sunflowers in bloom and a pretty church on a hill.

For the past several mornings Jay has been going just down the street to the Boulangerie Marie Boucherot for croissants.  He loves chatting with the baker and is impressed with her workers who apparently are very fast at making the baguettes.  I love that he brings croissants back to me for breakfast.

We must have enjoyed our dinner at La Table du Square because I forgot to take pictures.
