Baume-Les-Dames

September 12th

Baume-Les-Dames is a little ville between Besançon and Montbéliard and is located on the lovely Doubs River.  We stayed here a few years ago and just loved the biking so made the long drive from Beaune to enjoy this area again.  We parked beside the trail and headed east to the little village of L'isle-sur-Doubs where we planned to catch the train back to Baume-Les-Dames.  When we arrived at the station we only had a few short minutes to carry our bikes over the bridge to the other side of the tracks to catch our train.  As I madly tried to purchase our tickets on the SNCF AP on my phone we realized the train we were trying to catch had been cancelled. Fortunately there was another one in half an hour.  With the reprieve we set up our lunch in the little shelter next to the track and took a deep breath.  I do love being able to use the AP on my phone because once you put in the info (the first time is a bit confusing) it gives you the schedule, prices and with a double click your payment through ApplePay is accomplished. The tickets can then be stored in your wallet.

This evening we had dinner plans with the couple from Colorado Springs that I met at cooking class.  We went to their apartment just off the square for a glass of Cremant de Bourgogne and then walked around the corner to the Bistrot Bourgogne for dinner.  Since this was our third visit to the restaurant I think the owner finally started to recognize us.  Three of us ordered the duck main course that Jay had last time and Tom decided on the burger which looked yummy!  For dessert we lucked out and discovered that Mi-Cuit Chocolate meant Chocolate Lava Cake...again!  We had a fun evening and decided we needed to stay in touch.  They are fun to be with and easy to talk to as we are on the same page about lots of subjects.  They go to Santa Fe, NM every year and Chris said she loves the cooking class there so I might just have to join her there.

Tomorrow we'll be winding down, doing laundry since rain is in the forecast and probably do a little packing since we want to ride on Thursday and we leave for the Loire on Friday morning. I can't believe our month here is nearly over. It's gone by way to fast as most fun things do, I guess?
