Voyage en Velo

August 10th

Finally on our bikes today on Veloroute 2 in Brittany.  The route starts in San Malo and ends in Rennes.  We are located just 23km from San Malo.  Today was a warm-up ride from Dinan south to Evran just a 26km/16 mile ride.  The surface was mostly hard-packed fine gravel but still very easy riding.  As it follows the Rance River the trail was mostly flat.  We rode by several locks and the scenery was so gorgeous that I had to stop multiple times to take photos.  We took our jambon et frommage sandwich with us and found a little bench in the shade along the river for our lunch.  As we were leaving the picnic area I noticed a contraption that looked like a bike pump which we sorely needed to top off our bike tires.  We tried earlier at the Dinan bike shop but their pump was broken. We were lucky to find this (I with my keen eyes) so we didn't have to find another bike shop somewhere to finish pumping up our tires.  Jay was very impressed with the whole set up which not only included the pump but every bike tool you could imagine.

Dinner tonight was at the number one rated creperie in Dinan, Creperie Ahna.  Wow, this was exceptional!  A very small and intimate restaurant with the lightest galettes we've ever had.  I always refer to our savory choices as crepes but they are actually called galettes because they are made with buckwheat flour.  Jay ordered their special scallop crepe and I went for the "Forestiere" which is mushroom and lardon (ham) in a light cream sauce. We shared a green salad and bottle of Cote de Provence Rose (is there a theme happening with our wine choices here?)  We decided we will be returning this week to further explore their menu.  Yum!
