A Couple of Glitches 😟
August 12th
When we were deciding where to bike in France this year we wanted to try a different area so started looking into Brittany. I hadn't really heard biking was great in Brittany but as I searched on the wonderful website France Velo Tourism I found a greenway (meaning traffic free) along the Rance River from San Malo to Rennes. Our first ride took us south from Dinan, where we are staying, to Evran for about 16 miles or about 26 kilometers.
On our second ride we headed north toward San Malo and were sailing along when I noticed my cyclometer had fallen off somewhere along the trail. We turned around at 11.5 miles and searched to no avail so continued back to our place in Dinan. The good news is that I have a second cyclometer connected to my motor so I can still see how far we ride.
I forgot to mention a little glitch in our laundry endeavor yesterday...the washer/dryer did indeed wash and dry the clothes but then it wouldn't unlock. We read the instructions in English, Googled the machine but it still would not open. I texted the property manager and he said the cleaning lady would come and take a look. When we arrived back in Dinan, after losing my cyclometer, Christine showed up but was just as puzzled as we were so she called her husband. To make a long story short after trying many times to unlock the machine using a credit card, a dinner knife and a screwdriver it was decided to just demolish the door, with the approval of the manager, so we could rescue our clothing. The lovely Christine and her husband were very apologetic and gave us a second bottle of local cider. When we first arrived there was a bottle of the same cider on our table so we chilled it and opened it before dinner. Upon opening, the cider exploded all over which should have been my first clue but I gave it the old college try and put some in a glass. It actually smelled and tasted like kerosene! You can imagine how excited we were to then get another bottle...NON!
