Visiting Napoleon and Friends

The Chateau de Fontainebleau is simply a must see and is close enough to do as a day trip out of Paris.  The history of the chateau is fascinating in that it was the home to many kings from the time of Francis I up to Napoleon III.  Each added their own renovations so it is a combination of renaissance and classical styles.  It is said to have one of the most important collections of French furniture.  Jay was fascinated to learn all about Napoleon and I was interested in hearing about his two wives and children.  His male heir was born from his second marriage to Marie-Louise, whose great aunt was Marie Antoinette.  He never came to power because Napoleon was exiled and he also died at age 21 of tuberculosis.  I also loved the costumes displayed in many of the rooms, the tapestries, the chandeliers, the chapel, etc.  It was magnifique! The audio guide was helpful but as usual had an overload of information most of which I was unable to retain. 😏


























































The grounds were lovely as well and cover 130 hectares.  We just strolled around a few.
