A Very Full and Very Fun Day!

August 27th

To start off the day we made a visit to the exquisite Musee Jacquemart-Andre.  The museum was the private home of Edouard Andre and Nelie Jacquemart to display the art they collected during their lives. He was part of a rich banking family and she was a famous society painter who had painted his portrait 10 years earlier.  They had no children so amassed a huge collection of art.  The home itself is a work of art and worth the visit just to see it let alone the amazing collection.  I especially loved the ceiling frescos and the tapestries.  It seems people back then really loved huge portraits hanging all around.  I'm not sure I would love having all those eyes following me in every room?😏

Our next stop was Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur.  I've never counted the number of steps up and glad we found the funicular (1 metro ticket each way) so I didn't have to this time either.  Once we reached the top we found the line to get inside was ridiculous, probably because it was a Saturday during August, so we opted for a few photos of the outside which is really the main attraction anyway.

Feeling a bit hungry we were hustled into a nearby restaurant on Place du Tertre where all the artists hang out.  I think they might even be referred to as "hungry artists"?  Jay and I each had a giant pot of mussels with fries while Barb chose the Fish n' Chips.  We obviously should have shared our meal!  The mussels were really fresh tasting and delicious but I still couldn't finish them. Will we ever learn to share even when we're really hungry? I doubt it!

In need of a break and a shower we made our way back to the hotel.  We had a little time for a rest and a quick walk over to the Eiffel Tower before setting out to find our dinner cruise boat on the Seine.  Barb arranged this with a Rick Steves recommendation and it was wonderful!  The boat was one of the smaller ones so much more intimate than the Bateau Mouches and other larger companies.  I believe the company was Paris Vendetta.  What a perfect evening to see the sights and enjoy our time with Barb!
