Time to Van Go...gh!
September 13th
After checking out of our VRBO we walked around to find Rue des Teinturiers where there were once 23 waterwheels on a little canal. It was very near the train station but we hadn't discovered it until today. The waterwheels, of which only 4 remain, were installed to power the textile industry in Avignon. Somewhere down the road the folks in Nimes became jealous and were able to shut down the weaving production in Avignon. Now of course tourism is the main draw.

There were many decorative stone benches but this was my favorite |

A lovely mosaic I took a photo of for Jay's sister Katy, who is an accomplished mosaic artist in my opinion |
Along our walk we also found the indoor market, Les Halles, and wandered around until I found the salt vendor. I love the sea salt from France so I purchased a couple of bags to take home. Some of you lucky people may even benefit?
Lastly, we climbed a zillion stairs in the heat and humidity, I might add, to the Jardin des Doms. This is an English style garden located at the end of the main square outside the Palais du Papes. A beautiful place with panoramic views!

| Chateau de Villeneuve Les Avignon |
We bid adieu to Avignon and drove on down to Arles to experience the history and culture of the place where Van Gogh spent time painting some of his most famous works of art toward the end of his life. We checked into our VRBO apartment directly across the street from the ruins of the Roman Theater built here in 13 BC.
