Au Revoir, Beaune!
September 1st
Our last two days in Beaune came more quickly than we could have imagined. We weren't sure staying in one place for a month would be a good idea but we have loved every minute.
For our last long ride in Burgundy we drove over to Clamecy on the Canal du Nivernais. It's a bit of a drive from Beaune but we wanted to check out the area for a possible stay next year. We rode south on the canal and back for a 34km ride. I guess I overdid the photos because I knew it was our last canal ride.

| Our favorite lunches this year have been a little charcuterie platter on my mini sized cutting board and little travel tablecloth |

We got back to our place, showered and went out to Bar 66 where we met another couple from the Netherlands (this is the third one at this particular place). They were driving their all electric Kia which really impressed Jay since he is a big supporter of green energy. Our favorite waiter, Clement, was there and brought us an extra portion of my favorite croissant breadsticks after I asked him if he knew where we could buy them. I've looked in patisseries, boulangeries and several grocery stores to no avail. Oh well, I enjoyed my last one immensely!
Jay made a reservation at Le Carnot for dinner because we loved their Salade Bourguignonne so much we wanted to get it again. We decided to share the salad and a burger along with a Haute Cote du Nuits red wine. The dinner was really delicious and it only cost 49 Euros!

On our last day in Beaune we took a quick ride out to the vineyards so I could see the harvesting since I missed it the other day. We rode through the villages of Pommard and Volnay that are both so beautiful!
We had just enough time to visit the wine museum a few doors down our street before Jay needed to pack up the bikes and I needed to pack up our clothes. The museum tells the story of wine making but also the history of the museum. The museum is housed in an old residence of several Dukes of Burgundy including Philip the Good who reigned in Burgundy from 1419 until his death in 1467. During his rule Burgundy reached "the apex of its prosperity and prestige, and became a leading centre of the arts."

We went to dinner at another favorite restaurant, 8 Clos. We were seated next to a cute couple that live in Lugano, Switzerland but are from Ukraine. They were on a short holiday to celebrate their anniversary because they hadn't had a time away from their children for five years. They told us how their families escaped by car and that five of their relatives are living with them and their two children in their two bedroom apartment. They said they were happy to have them because it meant they were safe. What a great example of caring for others in time of need!
As I said at the top...Au revoir, Beaune!
