"Painting is just another way of keeping a diary" Pablo Picasso
August 18th
Jay went for a morning bike ride through the vineyards while I waited for the DHL driver to arrive with my new credit card. It seems someone had been using my card at amazon.uk and on a card not associated with my Amazon account. Bank of America was great! They credited back the charges and expressed a new card to me here in Beaune. We always travel with 2 different cards just in case this kind of thing happens. I'm just glad this is not the card I use for my automatic monthly bills. 😏
Once Jay returned we went out to finish the walk around the ramparts and we came across the art studio I saw a few days ago. The watercolors in the window caught my eye and one in particular looked like our street and was in fact just around the corner. We had a great time chatting with the artist Veronique Poulleau, in our limited French, who was raised in Pommard. She told us her father was a vintner as I suppose many are in Pommard. The house she grew up in sold recently to a woman from New York who spends summers here. Of course we purchased the painting (pictured below) for only 35 Euros.
Our dinner was at 8 Clos again. Jay started with the Escargot and I had the Oeufs en Meurette, made with Chardonnay. Jay actually had the trout for his main course and I chose the Supreme de Volaille which is a poultry dish, usually chicken breast, cooked in a creamy Epoisse sauce sometimes with mustard added and mushrooms. In addition we splurged on a bottle of Chardonnay from Burgundy, of course!
