Up for a View?...Oui
May 17th
Our first chore of the day was to take the bikes out of the suitcases and go to StoragePal to drop off the suitcases and pick up the two boxes of items we stored from last September. Upon arrival we learned that the boxes were sent to an outlying warehouse and would be transported back in a couple of hours (snag one for the day). After leaving the storage place we found a nearby Orange store to change our French e-sim cards to include phone and texting since I had topped them up with data only (snag two). Once we accomplished that we stopped for lunch and as we were perusing the menu the phone rang telling us the boxes would arrive in 10 minutes. We quickly got up and left the menus behind (kind of snag three) and hopped the subway to meet the driver at StoragePal. After dropping the boxes back at the apartment we found a boulangerie for a quick lunch before going for a walk around the city.
With the afternoon waning we decided to go to the Pompidou Center where there are great views of the city from the rooftop. The escalator is enclosed in a tube so you can see the ever-changing views appear as you go up several levels. We have viewed the city of Paris from different vantage points over the years. The top of the Montparnasse Tower, the top of Montmartre, the top of Galleries Lafayette, the top of the Arc du Triomphe and now from the top of the Pompidou and none disappoint. We walked our way back to our apartment over the Pont Neuf to complete about 6 miles for the days outing. Needless to say jet lag kicked in a bit and we ended up taking a quick snooze before going to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Combo on Rue Dauphine.
Dinner at Combo...always a treat!
