The Cluny...and I don't mean George😅
May 19th
The Musee de Cluny has been on our list for a while and today we finally were able to visit. It doesn't have the volume of art as some other museums but also doesn't have the crowds. There are many medieval artifacts, some exposed portions of the Roman baths and of course the tapestries of The Lady and the Unicorn. There are six tapestries and five are thought to represent the five senses...taste, hearing, sight, smell and touch. The sixth has the words "A monseul desire" which can be interpreted as love, longing or understanding.
We found a cafe nearby for lunch and Jay would call my lunch a "snag" because I thought I ordered the French onion soup but ended up with soupe aux legumes or vegetable soup. I guess my pronunciation of onion sounded like legume?
The afternoon was free to explore the Jardin des Plantes. We were specifically going there to check out The Carousel of Endangered Species but when we arrived we discovered it is part of a zoo-like enclosure that cost about 15 Euros each and it just didn't seem worth the fee. Perhaps further investigation will reveal that was a mistake but we enjoyed the gardens anyway. The Museum of Natural History is located within the garden walls as well so that will be on the list for another time.
Dinner was a repeat visit to L'Oliveto, a wonderful Italian restaurant located on Rue de Buci. After listening to all the wonderful specials we both ended up ordering the Linguini alle Vongole, linguini with clams in a white wine sauce, just as we did last year. What can I say, we are creatures of habit.
