Riding the Time Trial Route

July 2nd

As it turned out we will get to see two different sections of the Tour de France.  The official website gives the exact route so spectators know where to go to watch the riders fly by.  We will get to see the time trial on Friday, July 5th but today we actually rode the route and it was hilly. Jay was huffing and puffing up the long steep sections and I nearly ran out of battery...oh no! First we had to ride 25km to get to the start of the time trial in Nuits-Saint-Georges then the 20km of the actual route into Gevery-Chambertin.  Luckily it was a cool day which helped but we wanted to outrun the rain so we didn't stop much to linger except for a boulangerie in Comblanchien that we used to frequent.  We met two families that were on a world tour with their kids, one from Australia and the other from Bend, Oregon.  It was fun chatting with them and wished we had more time to hear about their travels.  The kids, 3 boys, were a wild crew going way too fast and we saw 2 of their crashes...we wondered how many more.  The Bend dad is a doc so I guess they're covered.  Somehow I managed to stop along the way for photos but not on the climbs or the long fast decent.

The apartment has a very large TV so we turned on the tour and had our happy hour before going to dinner at Le Coq Bleu.  We figured out the restaurant was the Blue Rooster because there was a giant metal rooster in the window and a large painting of a blue rooster on the wall.  We are very astute. Jay did not have rooster but did order the chicken.  I however went for the salade chèvre chaud.  Both excellent meals!
