Back in Burgundy 🍷
June 1st-June 6th
Our first few days in Beaune were spent just getting settled...unpacking, grocery shopping, doing laundry, getting the bikes setup and trying to get past our jet lag. There was a bit of rain as well over this week so we didn't get on the bikes until the 5th. Meanwhile we did some walking around town, visited the Marche aux Vin for a wine tasting and had fabulous dinners at our favorite restaurants. The weather promises to get better after the weekend which we are happy about so we can get on the bikes most days.

Our first ride in Burgundy is always the same, the Voie de Vignes from Beaune to Santaney and back for 45km. The ride takes you up and through all the famous vineyards and villages in this area...Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and finally Santaney. There are wonderful wines from each of these villages and we plan to try them all!

Another fun route is from Chagny to Chalon-sur-Saone along the Canal du Centre for 50km roundtrip. We met a jolly couple from Zurich along the pathway and another couple from Ashland, Oregon on a tandem Bike Friday. We shared stories with them and ended up with learning a few new tricks about Google translate from them as well as the name of some biking guide books they use. Unlike us, they carry their stuff in panniers and move everyday from place to place staying in B&Bs, small hotels and even in a campground that provided the tents, cots and bedding as well as a fabulous dinner they said. Sounds fun and romantic right up until the rain starts which is why we stay in our lovely apartment and do day rides when the weather is good.
